Rwandan Defense Forces(RDF) Spokesperson, Brigadier General Joseph Nzabamwita has accused the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) of deliberately firing a rocket into Rwanda, on Thursday, August 22, 2013. The RDF spokesperson voiced the accusations less than 12 hours after the Rwandan backed M23 Congolese rebels resumed fightings. On Wednesday night, the M23 rebels attacked the FARDC positions in Kibati, a few miles from the provincial capital of North Kivu, Goma and close to the border between the DRC and Rwanda.

According to the RDF Spokesperson, the 107 mm rocket was fired into the Bugu village, Busigari cell, Cyanzarwe Sector, Rubavu district, in Northwestern Rwanda.

Rwandan Military has in past blamed FARDC for firing rockets into Rwandan territory, whenever there were fightings between FARDC and M23 Rebels. FARDC commanders have denied firing into Rwanda, and instead accused the M23 Congolese rebels, and RDF troops embedded within the M23 rebels, of being responsible for bombings in order to find a pretext for RDF to invade the DRC. On July 15, 2013, the Rwandan Military accused FARDC of bombing Kageshi and Gasiza Cells, Busasamana Sector, in Rubavu District and killing civilians.

The latest bombing has allegedly caused damage to property.
