Rwandan Foreign Affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo Chastises Patrick Karegeya’s Orphans
Rwandan Foreign Affairs, Louise MUshikiwabo, Scolds Patrick Karegeya’s Orphans
Tuesday, January 7, 2014
In a bizarre turn of events following the assassination of Rwandan ex-spy chief, Patrick Karegeya, the self styled Rwandan Foreign Affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo has bluntly attacked and chastised the orphans of Patrick Karegeya. Louise Mushikiwabo, a Foreign Affairs Minister widely known for her undiplomatic words and demeanor and for sometimes being loudmouthed and arrogant, has attacked the children of the deceased in a series of tweets obtained by AfroAmerica Network (see here more about L. Mushikiwabo). The children, including the son, Elvis Karegeya who lives in the United States and the daughter, Portia Karegeya who lives in Canada were reacting to the statement of Louise Mushikiwabo when the latter erupted in a fury of offensive and derogatory tweets.
This is how the conversation went on Sunday January 5, 2013:
Claude Kabengera (Louise Mushikiwabo’s Twitter follower): Minister, what’d be Rdan Gvt position on the death of former spy chief Col. Karegeya, as someaone who served the Rwandan Army?
Louise Mushikiwabo: It’s not about how u start, it’s how u finish. This man was a self-declared enemy of my Gov & my country, U expect pity?
Mushabe Alex (another Louise Mushikiwabo’s Twitter follower): the end defines the means
Louise Mushikiwabo: “not the point, could or could not, but as MOFA[Minister of Foreign Affairs] I care when I hear “GV of Rwanda” shd b overthrown”
Edmund Kagire: “will there be an official gvt response? It would be fair for you to weigh in to end speculation”
Louise Mushikiwabo: “Simple: 1. Self-declared enemies of Rwandan are not on Gov of Rwandan sympathy list, 2. Let investigation end.”
Elvis Karegeya [Patrick Karegeya’s oldest son]: “As a Minister of Foreign Affairs you have no social media etiquette. That man was my father, never speak his name.”
Louise Mushikiwabo: “Don't need etiquette for people who urge ‘violent overthrow of Government of Rwanda’ unless you don’t understand my job.”
Louise Mushikiwabo: “I care for the life of our citizens killed by grenades planned by that man, as simple! Self-declared enemies of Rwanda are not on Government of Rwanda sympathy list.”
Elvis Karegeya: “So it is your government’s view that any enemy of the state deserves to be strangled to death?”
Louise Mushikiwabo: “It's my Government position: what happens to its enemies should not make it lose sleep.”
Portia Karegeya [oldest daughter of Patric Kageya]: “Many of us will and I request that you retain some dignity and refrain from sharing your feelings with us.”
Then, on Monday, January 6, 2013:
Rwandan Prime Minister Pierre Habumuremyi tweeted: "Betraying citizens and their country that made you a man shall always bear consequences to you."
When asked by The Associated Press if the tweet referred to Karegeya, the Rwandan prime minister said: "Not necessarily, this should be one of the values of #Rwanda leaders.”
Rwandan Prime Minister Pierre Habumuremyi, one of the Hutu puppets, within the government of the Rwandan dictator General Paul Kagame, rarely intervenes in the media, except for heaping insults on opponents or critics of the Rwandan government. In mid 2013, he published a article disparaging the Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, calling him a mediocre leader, lacking vision (see AfroAmerica Articles: Negotiate with Armed Opposition Without Preconditions of Jul 10, 2013).
The statements by Rwandan Minister Louise Mushikiwabo have shocked Rwandans, including those in opposition and or close to the Rwandan government. Some have pointed out to the brother of Louise Mushikiwabo, Mr Landuald Ndasingwa, a prominent Tutsi opposition leader, who was allegedly killed by Hutu extremists, accused of being the enemy of the Government of Rwanda at the time.
