After almost 3 decades of respite, apart a few here and there, waves of military coups and coup attempts have returned in Africa, again. The stakes are high and some leaders, especially those labelled dictators, are already preparing for potential coups against their reign, readying and organizing their close associates and family members for the worst scenarios. Two key leaders, already ahead in the preparation,  are  the Rwandan General Paul Kagame and Ugandan Yoweri Museveni. Anticipating chaos after their departure, the two leaders have been preparing their succession to the throne: their son and daughter.  Following the report on the scenarios secretely investigated or explored by the closest advisers and family members  of the two presidents who have been working with the most trusted agents within Ugandan Special Forces Command (SFC)  and the Rwandan Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI), AfroAmerica Network has obtained additional information regarding the top scenario already in action.

Ugandan Yoweri Museveni and Rwandan Paul Kagame Getting Ready Against Coups and Coup Attempts.

In just two years, Africa has known at least 45 military coups or coup attempts. The situation across the continent has worsened after almost 3 decades of respite.

Given the situation, tthere are growing signs that in Uganda and Rwanda, led by longterm dictators Yoweri Museveni and Paul Kagame, the political instability and popular discontent  may worsen in the near future, setting a stage for potential military coups.  According to the sources, the uneasiness has led the two leaders to get openly closer, after many years of alleged conflits. In fact,  according to some sources, the  widely reported conflits between the two leaders may not have been  be real, but  rather a fake proganda to fool the World and  their opposition groups and  activists, while the two leaders were working together in secrecy.

Regardless, both leaders have been organizing their close associates and family members for the worst scenarios (see also here: DRC-Uganda-Rwanda - Update: Rwandan Military Under Cover of Congolese M23 Rebels in Eastern DRC, Blame on FDLR and RUD-Urunana Rwandan Rebels, and Coup Attempts)

Sudden Rapprochement between General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and  General Paul Kagame following years of alleged Conflicts.

In a recent interview with French-African media, on January 28, 2022, Rwandan President Paul Kagame, was asked several questions regarding his government and decades of unchallenged despotism. He seemed to camly confirm that a military coup was a growing possibility in Rwanda.

Before that interview, on January 22, 2022, Lieutenant-General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Ugandan Land Forces commander and the purported heir of the throne of his 77-year old father, Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni, visited Rwanda and was received by Rwandan President Paul Kagame in the afternoon during a one-day trip.Rwanda's presidency said that the purpose of the meeting was  "to discuss relations between Rwanda and Uganda".

After the visit, Lieutenant-General Muhoozi Kainerugaba tweeted,  praising himself and General Paul Kagame: "The border is fully opening tomorrow. Me and my uncle (President Kagame) achieved in 7 hours what all the diplomats on earth failed to achieve. I think we need a prize."

On March 3, 2022 Lt. Gen.Muhoozi Kainerugaba  travelled to South Africa for "a courtesy call" to the South African president Cyrill Ramaphosa, and "getting tips on breeding Ankole cows".

On March 4, 2022, he tweeted: "My father, President @KagutaMuseveni told me as a young child 'You will only be as great as me if you are willing to suffer for Uganda as I have!' Ugandans will make their decision if I have walked in his footsteps."

A few days later, on March 8, 2022, Lieutenant-General Muhoozi Kainerugaba tweeted that he was retiring  from the UPDF at 47 years old: “After 28 years of service in my glorious military, the greatest military in the world, I am happy to announce my retirement.”

This type of announcement appeared similar to the one from his father in 2004. In April 2004, then Lieutenant-General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who was both Ugandan President  and Commander-in-Chief of the Ugandan armed forces, decided to retire from the army,  saying:  “I need to retire in order to fight new battles.”  The first step in the new battle was changing the Ugandan constitution to remain president for life.  General Paul Kagame did the same a few years later.

Now, on March 14, 2022, less than a week after announcing his retirement,   Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba is back in Kigali, Rwanda, for a three-day visit. In Kigali, he received a presidential reception  at the Kigali International Airport  by Uganda’s Deputy Ambassador to Rwanda Anne Katusiime, Rwanda Defense Spokesperson Col Ronald Rwivanga, and Brig Gen Willy Rwagasana, Rwanda’s Commandant of Republican Guard.

Son and Daugther of Uganda's and Rwandan's President Getting Ready For Power Inheritance.

The  second trip to Rwanda after just  a few weeks, his presidential reception  at the Kigali International Airport, and his recent statements appear to have fueled the on-going speculations and rumors in the region:  Mr. Muhoozi Kainerugaba  and Paul Kagame's designated heir, Ms Ange Kagame,  are getting ready for power inheritance.

Over the last months, AfroAmerica Network has obtained sensitive information from sources close to the Rwandan Department of Military Intelligence (DMI), pointing to four scenarios being investigated and assessed by General Paul Kagame's most trusted advisers and family members.  The latest information obtained pointed to a close collaboration between Yoweri Museveni and Paul Kagame,  prioritizing one of  the four scenarios as reported by AfroAmerica Network in the previous articles ( (see also here: DRC-Uganda-Rwanda - Update: Rwandan Military Under Cover of Congolese M23 Rebels in Eastern DRC, Blame on FDLR and RUD-Urunana Rwandan Rebels, and Coup Attempts). The names withheld have been revealed and the priority is on Scenario 1.

  • Scenario 1: The ailing Paul Kagame peacefully leaves power, his daughter Ange Kagame takes over with the help  frorm General Jean Bosco Kazura, Chief of Defence Staff of Rwanda Defence Force (RDF),  and her mother, Jeannette Nyiramongi Kagame,  and in collaboration with a young ally, Lt Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, now a prominent military leader from a neighboring country, also getting ready to inherit power from his father.

Meanwhile, General Jean-Bosco Kazura has been on a surprising three-day visit  in Paris  since Monday March 14, 2022,  at the invitation of his French counterpart General Thierry Buthkard. He is also expected to meet French President Emmanuel Macron and discuss the situation in Mozambique.

General Jean-Bosco Kazura's background is interesting. In June 2010, then the commander of Rwandan army training and operations, he was arrested after a visit to South Africa where he allegedly met  exiled former top military officers of the  Rwandan Patriotic Army. After a month in detention, General Paul Kagame ordered his release and promoted him, and had him appointed the commander of the UN’s stabilization force in Mali, known as MINUSMA, in June 2013. However, following widespread accusations of having supervised a death squad in Rwanda during the 1990-1994 Rwandan civil war and genocide, the United Nations department of peacekeeping unceremoniously fired him.

However, although the scenario has more probabiilities but other scenarios also remain on the table, with more information being gathered and investigated. Afromerica Network is closely following the story and will update as needed.
