Budapest, Hungary is hosting the track and field  2023 World Athletics Championships  on August 19–27, 2023.  On Friday, August 25, 2023, American Noah Lyles won the 200m, after winning the 100m on August 20, 2023. With the 200 m win, he has  become the first man to sweep the 100m and 200m at a single. World Athletics Championships since Usain Bolt in 2015. On the same day,  Jamaican Shericka Jackson won the women’s 200m  with the second-fastest time in history.

On August 20, 2023 USA's Noah Lyles won the 100m, and was the favorite to win the 200m final.  The expectation was that if he would  win the 200m gold, he would become the first man since Usain Bolt to prevail in both the 100m and 200m at a World Athletics Championships (see World Athletics Championships 2023: Noah Lyles Wins 100m Gold Medal and Eyes 200m Gold).

Now, he did it and  has joined  Usain Bolt and Allyson Felix as the only sprinters to win three world 200m titles.

Noah Lyles  won the men's 200 m in 19.52 seconds.  American  Erriyon Knighton came in second to win the Silver medal with  19.75 seconds  and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo in third with  19.81 seconds to win the Bronze medal.

Noah Lyles  has the  personal best  in 200m of 19.31 seconds, with Usain Bolt’s world record of 19.19 seconds.

On Saturday, August 26, 2023, Noah Lyles is scheduled to  be on the U.S. men’s 4x100m relay. If the US team wins, Noah Lyles would  become the first man to win three gold medals  at one World Athletics Championships  since Usain Bolt in 2015.

Jamaica's Shericka Jackson  Dominates the Women Field

On Women's side, Jamaica's Shericka Jackson dominated the field to win the 200m  women's title on Friday. Shericka Jackson won the women’s 200m in 21.41 seconds, the second-fastest time in history.

The  200m women world record  was won in 1988 by  Florence Griffith-Joyner in  21.34 seconds. Shericka Jackson has improved her time when she won  last year’s title in 21.45 seconds.

Jamaica's Shericka Jackson is also following in the footsteps of  Jamaica's Elaine Thompson-Herah, the fastest woman alive.

Elaine Thompson-Herah is  a track and field sprinter, competing in the 100 meters and 200 meters. In 2016 Rio Olympics, she set a precedent, winning gold medals in both 100 meters and 200 meters.  In 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Elaine Thompson-Herah  won the gold-medal for 100 meters.  With her win  in Tokyo, Jamaica had uninterruptedly won the fourth gold-medal for 100 meters in Olympics (2021 Olympics: Elaine Thompson-Herah Wins A New World Record and Becomes the Fastest Woman Alive).

In Budapest, Elaine Thompson-Herah has made it to the 4×100-meter women’s relay for the Jamaican National team and will participate in the relay event along with compatriots Briana Williams, Shashalee Forbes, and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
