President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, the current president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and one of the most AfroAmerica Network influential Black Men of Year 2024 (see here AfroAmerica Network Most Influential Black Persons as of 2024)  has been provisionally declared the winner of the December 20, 2023 presidential elections. The provisional results were published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) on Sunday, December 31, 2023. Now,  as Felix Tshisekedi is reelected, the Congolese people are  waiting for him to fulfill his promises to overthrow Rwandan dictator Paul Kagame.

After the publication of the results,  President Felix  Tshisekedi's supporters  took to the streets to celebrate. To prevent any unrests and potential violence the army has been deployed in various parts of the capital, Kinshasa, and in some main cities around the country.

The fears for potential violence have been fueled by the recent comments from his main opponents, arguing that the elections were a sham and calling for a re-run of disputed elections,  In a joint statement, several opponents  of Felix Tshisekedi  have called for protests,  saying that the people has "to take to the streets en masse after the proclamation of the electoral fraud".

The head of the election commission has dismissed any expressed concerns by the opposition candidates, saying that any demand for elections re-runs is just a desperate reaction from "bad losers." .

During a news conference in the capital Kinshasa,  before the provisional election results were published, Martin Fayulu rejected them saying that  “We need new elections, credible, transparent, peaceful and impartial elections. If a foreign country considers these elections to be elections, there’s a problem. It’s a farce.

Then, after the publication of the results Martin Fayulu issued a more aggressive statement saying: “Everyone knows that Mr. Tshisekedi Tshilombo cannot, under any circumstances, win a fair  election in the DRC. This is why I completely reject the sham elections and the far-fetched results of the CENI."

He went further arguing that the elections are a coup-d'état carried out by the CENI for the benefit of Mr. Félix Tshisekedi Tshilombo, and that the people "must resist as Article 64 of the Constitution demands of us." and ask for "new elections, credible, transparent, peaceful and impartial elections.”

However, despite these comments, most observers and powerful governments and actors around the world agree that the elections are over. Even Moise Katumbi has decided that asking for re-runs is a waste of time.

In a statement on the announcement of provisional election results, the US Embassy in Kinshasa has taken  "note of the provisional election results published by the DRC’s National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) on December 31, 2023 which show President Felix Tshisekedi leading by a large majority".

The final results are expected  on January 10, 2024.

President Tshisekedi, 60 years old,  will be sworn in for the second term on January 20, 2024. With President Tshisekedi's win, the attention is now shifting towards  the worsening security situation in the DR Congo due to the invasion by  the Rwandan military under the cover of M23 rebels and Felix Tshisekedi's promises directed against the Rwandan dictator Paul Kagame.
In fact, on Friday night, December 8, 2023,  President Félix Tshisekedi  on a presidential campaign for his reelection, while addressing his supporters, compared the Rwandan dictator Paul Kagame to the late German NAZI leader Adolf Hitler.  President Tshisekedi then  promised that,  if reelected, his first priority is to overthrow the current Rwandan regime led by Paul Kagame. (see DR Congo Elections : UN Experts New Report, as Felix Tshisekedi is Expected to be Reelected and Overthrow Rwandan Dictator Paul Kagame).

AfroAmerica Network is still following the dynamics in Kigali, Rwanda and Kinshasa, DRC and getting more information from several sources close to the leaders of  DRC and Rwanda.
