After so much anticipation, the Associated Press has projected on Saturday, November 7, 2020 that Joe Biden has won the 2020 US presidential election. During the 2020 campaign, AfroAmerica Network predictions were that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, the Democratic Candidates, may have more chance to win than Donald Trump and Mike Pence. (see here on AfroAmerica Network: US 2020 Presidential Elections ). The predictions have, somehow, got realized.

The  predictions were complicated by the political landscape and major events, including COVID-19,  racial injustice issues, demonstrations, and political tensions and divisiveness. In August 2015, only very few news media believed Donald Trump, then one of a multitude of US Republican Presidential candidates, was believable. AfroAmerica Network was one of them. At the time, the landscape was less mulky after two successful terms by President Barack Obama (see here on AfroAmerica Netwok: US 2016 Presidential Elections )

According to the AP projections, Joe Biden has secured electoral votes above the 270-vote threshold in the Electoral College needed to win the elections. After a long suspens  during which Joe BIden was leading with 254 vs 214 for Trump, he won Pennsylvania, adding 20 electoral votes, and Nevada, with 6 votes. He is also expected to win Wisconsin, Michigan and Arizona. Georgia remains in play. President Trump won all these four states in 2016.

In a statement, Joe Biden said the following:

"I am honored and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in Vice President-elect Harris. In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the heart of America.

"With the campaign over, it’s time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation. It’s time for America to unite. And to heal."

"We are the United States of America. And there’s nothing we can’t do, if we do it together."

With the win, Joe Biden holds the record for the most number of votes cast for any presidential candidate in the history of the United States. He will secure more than 74 million. The previous record, 69.5 million votes,  was held by Barack Obama in 2008.

The win is also historic, with Kamal Harris, a Black woman,  as  the first woman to become the Vice-Pfesident of the United States of America.  In fact, Sen. Kamala Harris will make history three times:  the first woman, first Black person, and first Asian American to become the Vice-President of the United States of America (see AfroAmerica Network: Joe Biden's Black Woman Running Mate: Kamala Harris)
