On April 2, 2024, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, 44-years-old, was sworn in as the new President of the Republic of Senegal. During the ceremony, attended by many state leaders from across Africa, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye reiterated his commitment to abide by and protect the constitution of the Republic of Senegal, to promote the interests of the people above all other goals, and to improve relations with African and other countries around the World. Meanwhile, statements from and positions of a few political leaders and activists close to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, supporting some known African bloody dictators, have already raised some concerns.
Senegal: Failed Attempts to Dictatorship.
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye was elected following a political climate full of tensions, conflicts, and even threats to some candidates. In fact on February 3, 2024, Senegalese president Macky Sall called off the 2024 presidential election, setting off a constitutional crisis in Senegal. He had also jailed the opposition leader Ousmane Sonko who was in the same party as Bassirou Diomaye Faye, before the party was disolved.
Following the tensions and protests, the Senegalese government under Macky Sall announced that the presidential elections will be held on March 24, 2024. It was a celebration by the people with manifestations focusing on the victory over President Macky Sall's attempts to become a new African dictator (see Africa: African Dictators of 2024; Many Down, New Ones, More to Go )
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye : The Youngest President in the History of Senegal With High Promises
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye won elections becoming the fifth President of the Republic of Senegal after Leopold Sedar Senghor, Abdou Diouf, Abdoulaye Wade and Macky Sall and the youngest president in the history of the Republic of Senegal.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by many African heads of state and their representatives. Hence, he elaborated on the plan to cooperate with other African countries as well as with other distant countries.
He said, "I am sure that the results of the elections show a strong desire for changes in the operational system."

He reminded the audience of the sacrifices made by the people, including deaths, while protesting against the attempts of Macky Sall to impose a dictatorship.
"I will keep thinking in my heart, the great sacrifices that have been made,...the dead, the disabled, the prisoners fighting for change, so that I do not disappoint them", he said, before adding "I will encourage Senegalese, both here and abroad, for the project of a united country, with a future characterized by peace and stability".
At the level of the African continent, President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye said, "The seriousness of the existing security problems requires us to have better cooperation. Together with my fellow Heads of State, I reiterate that Senegal will support the efforts put into the process of seeking peace, security, stability and unity in Africa".
President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye also raised concerns about the increasing wars and insecurity across Africa. He said: "I will work to ensure that Senegal continues to be a country that opens its doors and accepts cooperation in respecting the integrity of our country, along with what the people Our people are also looking for mutually beneficial cooperation".
He has appointed Ousmane Sonko, 50-years-old, as the Prime Minister, becoming the the 16th Prime Minister of the Republic of Senegal. Meanwhile, Ousmane Sonko's past comments supporting some African bloody dictators, especially the Rwandan dictator Paul Kagame who is very close to Macky Sall, have already raised some concerns.
Those who attended the ceremony included the President of Gambia, Adama Barrow, of Guinea Bissau, Umaru Cissokho Umballo, of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who also heads the ECOWAS Community, of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, and of Guinea Mamady Doumbouya.
President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye has two wives, Marie Khone Faye and Absa Faye, and four children.
